CÉSAR BALDACCINI

Nouveau Réalisme

- César Baldaccini is one of the great sculptors of the twentieth century. In his magical hands, he transforms rusty bolts, screws, old car parts, discarded cans and plexiglass have been compacted into delightful works of art that César himself has called “compressions”.

- Noveau Réalisme is an artistic movement founded by among others world famous artis Yves Klein in 1960. "New ways of perceiving the real" became their slogan and together they sought to bring art and life closer together.

- Among César’s casts of sculpted breasts, female torsos and clenched fists, it is the thumb that, above all else, has emerged as the artist’s hallmark – his own, greatly enlarged thumb in bronze.
